Offshore Testing Team: Segregation of Duties

Offshore Testing Team: Segregation of Duties

There are as many testers as there are developers as their jobs depend on each other – as long as software products are developed they will be tested. Testing specialists have to test mobile, web or desktop apps all the time while at work. The developers spend 50% of their time running testing. Onshore or offshore testing team does more testing than development work.

Independent Testing: Segregation of Duties

Testers need to work independently. By this is meant that they should not be subordinate to any other IT departments / divisions such as development, examination, infrastructure or system. Test departments should be kept out of any irrelevant commitments and be free so that the testing can be rational, meaningful, and, especially, impartial.

Third party testing service providers execute tests without reporting to a software development director. Naturally, they are not accountable to analyst manager either. If the organizational structure is different, then, it is better to forget about auditing / controlling power and, or course, independence.

Supposing a tester reports bugs of a development team, and his boss, who was primarily a developer, comes to ask him to “chill out” and let the developers have breathing space and time. Or, for example, another boss may ask a tester not to continue some quality reporting (just because it distresses!) and next time ask him to publish some fake quality reports for the good of some divisions, departments or projects. Frankly speaking, these experiences are not pleasant to have. It is especially important if a tester is measuring quality so he should not be put in the inferior position to someone else.

Fortunately, in some segments government entities are created so as to regulate and control QA issues. They prescribe rules and inspect companies so that to verify if the regulations are met and the related IT governance and control frameworks are deployed. This external power allows to get closer to realizing the dream of having independent software testing company and testing specialists.

Without Doubt, Independent Testing Has a Lot of Benefits Like:

  • Impartial testing.
  • Reduction of test efforts.
  • Standardization of testing procedures, deliverables, and results.
  • Increments in responsibilities, and, as a consequence, improved quality.
  • Improved user acceptance testing (UAT) and increased customer satisfaction.
  • More speedy software development life cycles (SDLCs).
