Popular Myths and Misconceptions about Usability Testing Services

Despite the fact that usability testing has been available for a couple of decades now, it is still surrounded by some myths. This type of testing plays a significant role in software development life cycle. In the course of time, usability testing services have been delivered better, faster and cheaper that is why one cannot but resort to them as and when necessary. Let us together explode several myths about usability testing.

Myth 1 – Only Experts are Allowed to Run Usability Testing

Nearly anyone can perform usability testing service. However, one should not expect outstanding results from such work. It is impossible to carry out usability testing effectively without having analytical skills, expertise in software testing and the work experience so that to understand the product’s demands.

Myth 2 – It Requires Time & Costs

This statement was true some years ago when we did not see a lot of people busy on hi tech devices that drive us crazy these days. With the dawn of the technological era, usability tests are carried out at a reasonable price, and this job can be done in both onshore and offshore zones. At that, you need not an expensively equipped qa lab and a big testing team to run the usability testing.

Myth 3 – Usability Testing is Equal to User Acceptance Testing

People that participate in usability testing process are representatives of the users.  They perform these tests focusing only on the user experience and not on the user interface that needs to be in compliance with the business requirements – this is quite another story that has to do with User Acceptance Testing.

Myth 4 – Usability Testing & Focus Groups are Equal

False! These types of testing have different goals and cannot be paralleled because they both gather feedback. Focus groups give an estimate to the user’s opinion while usability testing refers to seeing people use a product in real world conditions. The users are assigned to perform tasks and then the results as well as the user experience are assessed.

Myth 5 – Usability Testing Cannot be Performed During the Development Phase

Do not be mistaken! Without any doubt, collecting user feedback and integrating it in the development system to change the design according to the feedback makes much sense. But, usability testing does not happen to be done in each stage of software development, and for this reason, more often than not the users become involved in testing essential items such as the menu, prototypes in the early stages of the development cycle.

There are different types of software quality assurance testing services, all of them contribute to the success of the production process to different degrees. You can neglect none of these if you are interested in marketing high-quality software.
