The profession of an app and web tester is cloaked with certain myths mostly created by non-specialists. Let’s discrown them:
#1. A tester should not necessarily be a computer savvy
No comments. Of course, there may be a tiny percent of testers ignorant in computers, but such “specialists” won’t be able to provide high-quality QA services.
#2. A tester should be proficient in programming
It is great when the tester knows programming. However, even the comprehension of general programming concepts is enough to start the career of a tester.
#3. Testing is simple
Often testing tasks and QA services can be as complex as the work in designing and programming. But a qualified tester who offers app testing services can take on this challenge.
#4. Testing is routine and boredom
No more and no less than other IT professions. The rest depends on the tester and the way he organizes his work. It doesn’t matter whether he works at software testing lab, or he is self-employed.
#5. Testers should be taught every aspect of testing
They should not! If we are talking about an educational process that takes place in the companies, universities, individual training center or elsewhere, in this case, facilitators undertake certain “educational commitment”. But even this sort of training will never replace self-education. IT-industry is changing rapidly and continuously and if a tester plans to work at prestigious software testing lab he should study all the time.
#6. A tester is an unsuccessful programmer
Following this logic, a violinist is those who failed to become a pianist? Of course, a certain percentage of testers are those who failed to become programmers, but there are also specialists who made their mind work at software testing lab on purpose.
#7. A tester can’t build a career
With enough diligence, a career of a web and application testing is probably the most dynamic (compared to other IT-oriented professions). Testing itself belongs to a booming IT industry, so one can choose whether he wants to work at software testing lab, or to provide app testing services working at a reputable company.
