Career in Software Testing Tips & Tricks

What is More Important for Testing Software Services Job: Education or Knowledge?

Is testing software services job on your mind? How do you evaluate your chances of getting the job? A lot of quality assurance companies prefer hiring high educated staff. But is this attitude shared by all the organizations? Does a test software company follow this principle as well? Does a software tester necessarily need to have a good education?

Each testing company has its answers to these questions. On one hand, uneducated people are at risk of experiencing financial or personal problems. For example, an unskilled tester with a poor educational background is unlikely to get a good job in the company, and the teammates will have little interest in discussing professional topics with him. The thing that matters is knowledge, by the way, education and experience do not mean much in most fields of work.

For being good in quality assurance job, the tester should have broad knowledge in the sphere of software testing, namely in his professional field. He should be expert in any testing whether it be multi-platform testing, compatibility testing, regression testing or acceptance testing.

Besides, due to the availability of numerous mobile devices, there is a high demand for multi-platform testing services. If you want to know whether your app is compatible with different operating systems or screen resolutions, you cannot do without multi-platform testing.

Software testing cannot be a primary professional activity of a person, but having the knowledge of software testing, he or she will be much smarter than those who have a diploma in system qa and software testing.

Most software testing services companies worldwide employ certified software test specialists, despite that their professional knowledge is not as good as that of unlicensed nonprofessional testing professionals but they are more competent at the field-specific issues. For example, Bill Gates was not a bright student at the University, but now he is a Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft.

What Does it Take to Become a Successful Tester?

  • Knowledge in their specialty field (for instance, knowledge on what kinds of bugs are most often detected by testers running mobile testing, website testing and others.)
  • Enthusiasm (this includes aspiration for improving knowledge in a particular field and self-education / self-development)
