What is The Difference Between Developer and Tester

To release a project successfully, it is quite necessary for a developer and a tester to work together. Collaboration of a tester and developer with the aim to achieve the common goals is just as important as the communication between the Earth and the Moon. Only then can the desirable results be reached.

In some cases, developers and testers do not understand the job and the tasks, the duties and responsibilities of each other. It is obvious that a quality testing services company tends to hire high professional employees that have necessary skills, knowledge and experience to carry out the job effectively. Thus, the testers must be experts in their field while the developers, correspondingly, – in theirs.

So, what is the difference between being a tester and a developer? Let’s are comparing their roles and contrast them.

  • High level of professional competence is the necessary skill in the software development role. A software tester does not need to be a whiz with modern technology, as deep technical knowledge is not required for a testing job. For instance, back box test design technique requires no knowledge of programming languages.

Service quality assurance helps to prevent defects in the products under development and avoid problems while delivering solutions to the customers. This job is performed by the tester.

  • The developers do their work (write code) against the customer requirements. The testers verify this code using test automation tools, regression testing technique, functional testing method and other types of testing.
  • Software development is a unified process wherein a software product is developed through a sequence of phases in an orderly way, but independent evaluation and verification of manufactured products is an integral part of software testing process.

By the way, you are welcome to use independent verification and validation services to ensure that your project meets requirements/ specifications and performs its intended purpose.

  • Developers focus on the proper functionality of the software product while testers try to fix the problems with the software not functioning properly.
  • A developer must identify a cause of the problem as soon as possible, a tester – report the problem to the development group.
  • Developers are well familiar with the software’s components. Testers are splendid at their specific job specialization, but they do not know much about the product itself.
  • The development is based on the customer’s requirements, the testing – simulated user behavior.
  • Writing the code, a developer attempts to improve the software performance. Testing is aimed at detection of bugs and identification of their causes.
